We had an exclusive preview of the photo campaign for this project and selected these 3 pictures as our favorites.
David Wojnarowicz became a protagonist of New York’s vibrant local arts scene after settling in the East Village in Manhattan in 1978. The iconic American artist, writer, filmmaker and activist incorporated strange experiences drawn from his personal history in many of his works and after being diagnosed with AIDS, Wojnarowicz’s art took a vocal political stance, producing some of the most important and challenging work around the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
Today, his work continues to provoke controversy and inspire around critical social issues related to freedom, justice and equality.Loewe creative director, Jonathan Anderson, conceived a project to raise awareness and honor Wojnarowicz’s legacy as a courageous creator and activist, selecting 4 of the artist’s works and printing them on a limited series of t-shirts.
Loewe t-shirts are created with the support of the Visual AIDS Foundation and the P.P.O.W Gallery, which represents the artist’s heritage. All proceeds from sales of the project will be donated to Visual AIDS.
Loewe launched this project with a fundraising event at the Printed Matter Bookstore in New York and will sell the t-shirts at loewe.com and Visual AIDS online, Dover Street Market (London and Tokyo), and at Printed Matter and P.P.O.W. Gallery in New York, as well as a series of selected LOEWE stores around the world for $99 USD.
